Vivah Muhurat 2027: Marriage Dates Meeting the Classical Conditions

This page lists the 2027 dates that meet the classical conditions for a Hindu wedding (vivah), computed for New Delhi and arranged month by month. The sections below explain those conditions — the nakshatras, tithis and weekdays the muhurta texts favour and the periods they rule out — so the list can be read for what it is: a general shortlist, not a judgement about any couple.

68 dates across 8 months of 2027 meet the classical conditions for New Delhi.

Dates meeting the classical conditions (nakshatra, tithi, Kharmas, Chaturmas, Guru/Shukra asta) for New Delhi, cross-checked against a published panchang; times differ by city.

Dates month by month

Every date below meets these conditions:

  • Outside Chaturmas (Devshayani to Dev Uthani Ekadashi)
  • Jupiter and Venus not combust

No dates in July, August, September, October: there the closed periods (Kharmas, Chaturmas, a Jupiter or Venus combustion) or the nakshatra and tithi conditions leave no qualifying day.

What a vivah muhurat is, and what this list is not

A muhurta is an elected moment: a time chosen because the sky and the calendar meet conditions laid down in the classical texts. The Muhurta Chintamani, the most widely used of these manuals, gives marriage a full chapter of its own. Some of its conditions depend only on the calendar — the lunar day, the Moon’s nakshatra and the Sun’s sign, which sets the season — and those are the ones applied to build this list for New Delhi.

Other conditions are personal. They depend on the Moon signs and birth stars of the bride and groom, on the planets’ transits from their charts, and on the rising sign (lagna) at the exact hour of the ceremony. No published calendar can apply those, which is why every date here is described as meeting the classical conditions rather than as “the right date”. A family priest or a personal muhurta reading narrows the shortlist to a window for one couple. Kundli milan, the matching of the two charts, is a separate step altogether.

Nakshatras favoured for marriage

The texts name eleven lunar mansions for the wedding rite: Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Moola, Uttarashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. Several of them belong to the “fixed” (dhruva) group — Rohini and the three Uttaras — which the muhurta tradition associates with undertakings meant to last. Mrigashira, Anuradha and Revati are classed as gentle (mridu), suited to auspicious and affectionate beginnings.

Because the Moon moves through roughly one nakshatra a day, a qualifying nakshatra is usually present for only part of any date. That is why the condition is checked against the time of the ceremony and not just the calendar day, and why two almanacs can list the same date with different hours. The muhurta manuals also add finer tests, such as the nakshatra being free of affliction from malefic planets, which priests apply when they fix the hour.

Tithis, weekdays, yogas and karanas

Among the lunar days, the Rikta tithis — Chaturthi, Navami and Chaturdashi — are left out, and so is Amavasya, the new moon. The tithis most commonly accepted are Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi and Trayodashi, with the bright fortnight (Shukla paksha) generally preferred because the Moon is gaining light. Some traditions also accept the full moon, and this list, like many published panchangs, also admits Shashthi, Ashtami, Dwadashi and Krishna Pratipada; each date’s tithi is shown in the table.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday — the days of the Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus — are the most widely preferred weekdays. Tuesday and Saturday are generally avoided in North Indian practice, and Sunday is accepted by some families and not by others; this list does not filter on the weekday, so every date shows its day and families can apply their own custom. When the hour is fixed, two further limbs of the panchang are checked: the half-tithi called Vishti or Bhadra karana is avoided, and so are the yogas Vyatipata and Vaidhriti.

Periods when weddings are traditionally not held

Kharmas comes twice a year, when the Sun moves through Sagittarius (Dhanu, roughly mid-December to mid-January) and Pisces (Meena, roughly mid-March to mid-April); weddings pause in both. Chaturmas, the four months from Devshayani Ekadashi in Ashadha to Dev Uthani Ekadashi in Kartika, is likewise kept free of marriages in North Indian practice, which is why the season usually reopens in November.

Two planetary conditions matter just as much. When Jupiter or Venus is combust — too close to the Sun to be seen, popularly called “guru asta” or “shukra asta”, or the star “setting” — no marriages are fixed, and many calendars also leave a few days on either side for the planet’s rising and setting. Holashtak before Holi, Pitru Paksha, an intercalary month (adhik maas) and eclipse days are avoided as well. Together these rules explain why wedding seasons cluster in a few windows each year and why some months of 2027 may show few or no dates.

Personal checks a family priest adds

Once a general date is shortlisted, the classical texts grade it for the couple. Jupiter’s transit is counted from the bride’s Moon sign (guru bala) and the Sun’s from the groom’s (surya bala); where the grade is middling, the texts prescribe worship of that planet rather than ruling the date out. The Moon’s position that day is checked from both Moon signs (chandra bala), and the day’s nakshatra is counted from each birth star (tara bala) to avoid the third, fifth and seventh in the cycle.

Finally the lagna for the ceremony is chosen — a sign rising at the hour of the pheras with the seventh house free of malefic influence. Some communities use godhuli lagna, the dusk hour when cattle return home, as a time with its own sanction. Regional calendars add their own rules: Tamil families, for example, avoid the solar months of Aadi and Margazhi. None of these checks can be applied in a general list, so treat the dates here as the first step.

How to read the dates on this page

Every date is computed for New Delhi with the panchang day running from sunrise to sunrise. Tithis and nakshatras change at a precise moment, so the same calendar date may have a slightly different qualifying window in another city, and a date that only just qualifies in Delhi may not qualify at all far to the east or south.

Printed almanacs sometimes differ from this list because they make different choices at the edges: how many days to leave around a combustion, whether to include dates in a month their region allows, or whether to count a self-auspicious day such as Akshaya Tritiya or Vasant Panchami regardless of the other limbs. Those days, known popularly as abujh muhurat, are widely used for weddings by families who follow that custom.

Vivah Muhurat 2027: frequently asked questions

Which months have vivah muhurat dates in 2027?

In 2027, the dates meeting the classical conditions for New Delhi fall in January, February, March, April, May, June, November, December. That depends on where Kharmas, Chaturmas and any combustion of Jupiter or Venus fall in 2027. The month-by-month table on this page shows every date that meets the classical conditions for New Delhi; months without dates are the ones those exclusions cover.

Why are there no shaadi dates in some months of 2027?

Weddings pause while the Sun is in Sagittarius or Pisces (Kharmas), during Chaturmas, and while Jupiter or Venus is combust. When one of these covers a whole month, the month shows no dates.

Is a date on this list right for every couple?

No. The list applies only the general conditions that depend on the calendar. Personal checks — Jupiter and Sun transits from the couple’s Moon signs, tara bala, and the lagna at the ceremony hour — narrow it further for each couple.

Can a wedding take place on a date that is not listed?

Many families marry on self-auspicious days such as Akshaya Tritiya or Vasant Panchami, or on a date their own priest has worked out with regional rules. This list shows only dates that pass the classical tests as applied here.

Do vivah muhurat dates change from city to city?

The general picture is the same across India, but nakshatra and tithi windows are tied to exact moments and to local sunrise, so the qualifying hours shift by place. These dates are computed for New Delhi.

What does guru asta or shukra asta mean for a wedding?

It is the period when Jupiter or Venus is too close to the Sun to be visible. Marriage muhurtas are not fixed then, and many calendars leave a margin of days on either side.

Is kundli milan the same as choosing a vivah muhurat?

No. Kundli milan compares the two birth charts; the muhurat chooses the time of the ceremony. Families usually do the matching first and fix the muhurat afterwards.

This list is a general shortlist for everyone. Narrowing it to an hour for your own family — tara bala, chandra bala and the lagna from your charts — is personal work.
