Saturn Transit 2027 in Aries
Shani gochar 2027, dated in Indian Standard Time: choose your Moon sign to see the house Saturn occupies from it in each stay of the year, whether the classical transit rules count that house as good, and where the year falls in your sade sati or dhaiya.
A worked example
The example chart's Moon is in Aquarius. Pisces is the 2nd sign from Aquarius, so the last phase of its sade sati runs through the Pisces stays; Aries is the 3rd from Aquarius, one of Saturn's good houses, during the June to October stay. Below the example is the same count for all twelve Moon signs.

Saturn spends about seven and a half months of 2027 in sidereal Pisces and moves into Aries (Mesha) at 04:05 IST on 3 June, then falls back into Pisces at 06:04 IST on 20 October and stays there until 23 February 2028. Shani is the slowest of the classical planets, taking about two and a half years over each sign and some twenty-nine and a half years over the whole zodiac, so its change of sign is one of the most watched events of the calendar. It also moves the sade sati and the dhaiya on to new Moon signs. Choose a Moon sign in the form and the result sets out the three stays of 2027, Saturn's house from that Moon in each, whether the classical transit rules list it among Saturn's good places, its obstruction house, and any sade sati or dhaiya dates running through the year. The rules are given for reference, not as a forecast.
Saturn's 2027 in three stays and two stations
Saturn has been in Pisces since 29 March 2025 and is still there when 2027 opens. It crosses into Aries at 04:05 IST on 3 June 2027 and stays for a little over four and a half months. On 9 August 2027 at 21:04 IST it turns retrograde in Aries, and the backward motion carries it over the boundary into Pisces again at 06:04 IST on 20 October. It turns direct in Pisces at 07:15 IST on 24 December 2027 and re-enters Aries at 18:02 IST on 23 February 2028, where its Aries passage resumes.
Every year Saturn's motion, as seen from the Earth, slows, turns backwards for some four and a half months and then turns forward again. Most years that retrograde stretch stays inside one sign; in 2027 it falls across the Pisces–Aries boundary, which is why the year has three stays instead of two. The table below gives each stay to the minute, and the result for your Moon sign gives the same three rows counted from your Moon.
Houses are counted from the Moon
For gochara, Phaladeepika takes the natal Moon as the starting point rather than the ascendant, so Saturn's place is read as a house counted from the sign the Moon occupied at birth. That sign is house one. With a Moon in Aquarius, Pisces becomes the 2nd and Aries the 3rd; with a Moon in Leo they are the 8th and the 9th.
Only the Moon sign enters the count, so any two people whose Moon shares a sign get identical houses and dates here. A birth time matters only insofar as it settles that sign; since the Moon moves to a new sign roughly every fifty-four hours, frequently partway through a day, it is worth confirming it in the Moon sign calculator before reading on.
Saturn's good houses, and vedha
The chapter names three houses from the Moon in which Saturn's transit counts as good: the 3rd, the 6th and the 11th. During the Pisces stays that is true for the Moon signs Capricorn (Pisces is its 3rd), Libra (6th) and Taurus (11th); during the Aries stay for Aquarius (Aries is its 3rd), Scorpio (6th) and Gemini (11th). For the other nine Moon signs in each stay, the house is not in Saturn's good list.
A good house comes with an obstruction, or vedha, house: the 3rd is paired with the 12th, the 6th with the 9th and the 11th with the 5th. While some other planet occupies the paired house, the good result of the first is obstructed, though for Saturn the Sun is exempt. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars move on within weeks (Mars stays longer when retrograde), so their vedha comes and goes inside a Saturn stay, while Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu can hold a sign for a year or more. In 2027 Rahu stays in Capricorn and Ketu in Cancer throughout: for a Moon in Aquarius, Capricorn is the vedha house of Saturn's 3rd-house stay in Aries, and for a Moon in Scorpio, Cancer is the vedha house of its 6th-house stay. The site's gochar page lists where every planet stands.
Sade sati and dhaiya in 2027
Sade sati is Saturn's passage through the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from the Moon, about seven and a half years in all; dhaiya is its stay in the 4th or the 8th sign, about two and a half years. In 2027 the sade sati runs for Moon signs Pisces and Aries all year, and for Aquarius all year apart from a break while Saturn is in Aries; it begins for Taurus with Saturn's entry into Aries on 3 June. The dhaiya runs for Sagittarius and Leo through the Pisces stays, with the Aries stay a break, and begins for Capricorn and Virgo with the Aries stay.
Because Saturn falls back into Pisces in October, several of these passages have a break: for a Moon in Taurus, for example, Saturn steps out of the 12th sign between 20 October 2027 and 23 February 2028, and the sade sati resumes with its return. The result gives each passage's start, end and breaks, worked out from the same ingress table the Shani dhaiya calculator uses, so the two pages give the same dates.
Aries, Saturn's sign of debilitation
The classical dignity table places Saturn's exaltation in Libra and its debilitation in Aries, deepest at twenty degrees. The result marks the Aries stay with that fact. This page states the dignity as a classification only: it gives no result for it, and none is implied for any Moon sign.
Shani gochar dates, and why calendars differ
All times here use the Lahiri ayanamsa, which the whole site follows, and are given in Indian Standard Time. Panchangs built on another ayanamsa or method can put a crossing days or weeks away, since Saturn moves only about two minutes of arc a day, and readers abroad may find it on the previous date by their own clock: 04:05 IST on 3 June 2027 is still 2 June in the UK, Ireland, Portugal and the Americas, and 06:04 IST on 20 October is still 19 October across the Americas.
In Tamil Nadu the change is kept as Sani Peyarchi; almanacs there that still compute by the traditional Vakya rules may date it weeks or even months apart from this page's figures. Tropical (Western) zodiac positions run roughly twenty-four degrees ahead of sidereal ones, which is why tropical Saturn is already in Aries long before this sidereal ingress; this page gives sidereal dates.
Classical source. Mantreswara's Phaladeepika, chapter 26 on gochara (transit) results: the Moon sign as the reference and Saturn's good houses 3, 6 and 11; the obstruction (vedha) pairs from the site's gochara table, in which the Sun never obstructs Saturn; the dignity table for Saturn's sign of debilitation. Sign-change and station times use the Lahiri ayanamsa, in IST.
Frequently asked questions
When does Saturn enter Aries in 2027?
At 04:05 IST on Thursday 3 June 2027, by the Lahiri ayanamsa. It falls back into Pisces at 06:04 IST on 20 October 2027 and re-enters Aries at 18:02 IST on 23 February 2028.
How long is Saturn in Aries in 2027?
From 3 June to 20 October 2027, a little over four and a half months. The rest of 2027 it spends in Pisces: until 3 June, and again from 20 October to 23 February 2028.
Is Saturn retrograde in 2027?
Yes. It turns retrograde in Aries at 21:04 IST on 9 August 2027 and direct in Pisces at 07:15 IST on 24 December 2027. The retrograde is what carries it back over the boundary into Pisces on 20 October.
Which Moon signs have sade sati in 2027?
Pisces and Aries for the whole year; Aquarius too, apart from a break from 3 June to 20 October 2027 while Saturn is in Aries; and Taurus from 3 June 2027, when Saturn enters Aries, the 12th sign from Taurus. Saturn's return to Pisces from 20 October is a break in the Taurus passage, which resumes on 23 February 2028.
Which Moon signs have Shani dhaiya in 2027?
Sagittarius and Leo through the Pisces stays, as Pisces is the 4th sign from Sagittarius and the 8th from Leo, with the June to October Aries stay a break; and Capricorn and Virgo from 3 June 2027, as Aries is the 4th from Capricorn and the 8th from Virgo, with Saturn's return to Pisces from 20 October 2027 to 23 February 2028 a break. The Shani dhaiya calculator gives the full dates for any Moon sign.
Is Saturn's house counted from the ascendant here?
Not as the classical transit chapter frames it. Gochara is counted from the Moon sign, so everyone with the same Moon sign has Saturn in the same house and shares these dates. Saturn's house from the ascendant is a separate reading, made from the full birth chart.
