Jupiter Transit 2026 in Leo
Guru gochar 2026, dated in Indian Standard Time: choose your Moon sign to see the house Jupiter occupies from it during each stay of its 2026–2028 passage through Leo, and what the classical transit chapter associates with that house.
A worked example
The example chart's Moon is in Aquarius. Leo is the 7th sign from Aquarius, one of the houses the text counts as good for Jupiter; during the 2027 return to Cancer Jupiter is in the 6th, and during the Virgo interval in the 8th. Below the example is the same count for all twelve Moon signs.

Jupiter, Guru or Brihaspati, crosses into sidereal Leo (Simha) at 11:17 IST on 31 October 2026, having spent the months since June in Cancer. Brihaspati gochar is among the most watched transits of the year, because Jupiter needs about twelve years to go round the zodiac and its sign decides which part of a chart it is said to favour for roughly a year. This passage is not a simple one-year stay. Jupiter turns retrograde inside Leo in December, backs into Cancer at the end of January 2027, comes forward into Leo again in June, moves on to Virgo in late November 2027, then retreats into Leo once more before leaving it for good in July 2028. Pick your Moon sign below and the page lists every one of those stays, the house each falls in counted from your Moon, and how the chapter on transits in Phaladeepika reads Jupiter in that house. The readings are the text's, given for reference.
The Leo passage in five stays
Seen from the Earth, Jupiter appears to stop and reverse for about four months every year. When that retrograde stretch falls close to a sign boundary, the planet can cross the same boundary three times, and this passage is one of those. The first stay in Leo runs from 31 October 2026 to 25 January 2027; Jupiter turns retrograde on 13 December 2026 while still in Leo and slides back across the boundary into Cancer at 00:56 IST on 25 January 2027.
It turns direct in Cancer on 13 April 2027 and re-enters Leo at 04:30 IST on 26 June 2027 for the longest of the five stays. On 26 November 2027 it moves on into Virgo, turns retrograde there on 12 January 2028, and is back in Leo from 28 February 2028. It turns direct in Leo on 14 May 2028 and finally leaves for Virgo at 14:47 IST on 24 July 2028. Counted from first entry to final exit the passage covers about twenty-one months, of which Jupiter spends about twelve and a half in Leo itself.
Counting the house from your Moon
Phaladeepika opens its transit chapter by saying that, of all the reference points, the Moon's sign is the one to count from, so gochara results are read by house from the natal Moon and not from the ascendant. The sign holding your Moon is the 1st; Leo is then a fixed number of signs on. For a Moon in Aquarius, Leo is the 7th; for a Moon in Aries, the 5th; for a Moon in Leo itself, the 1st.
Because only the Moon sign is needed, everyone born with the Moon in the same sign shares the same houses and the same dates on this page. The birth time matters only as far as it fixes that sign, but it can matter: the Moon changes sign every two and a quarter days, often in the middle of a day. If you are not sure of yours, find it with the Moon sign calculator before reading the result.
Jupiter's good houses and the other seven
The chapter names five houses from the Moon in which Jupiter's transit gives good results: the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th. For the Leo stays that puts five Moon signs in the good list — Cancer (Leo is its 2nd), Aries (5th), Aquarius (7th), Sagittarius (9th) and Libra (11th). The other seven Moon signs have Jupiter in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th or 12th, which the text does not list among Jupiter's good places.
For each house the text then gives a short list of results. In the 9th it speaks of all-round prosperity, in the 5th of children, good company and favour from those in authority, and in the 2nd of wealth and happiness at home; in the 8th it speaks of tiring journeys and loss of money, and in the 12th of sorrow and anxiety over property. The result table on this page gives the line for your house in plain words. Each is the text's association for that position, not a forecast for any one person, and it is meant to be read alongside the birth chart and the dasha running at the time.
Vedha: when a good transit is held back
A good house is not the whole rule. Phaladeepika pairs each of Jupiter's good houses with a vedha, or obstruction, house: the 2nd with the 12th, the 5th with the 4th, the 7th with the 3rd, the 9th with the 10th and the 11th with the 8th. Jupiter gives the good result of the first only when no planet is passing through the second at the same time.
For a Moon in Aquarius, for example, Jupiter in Leo is in the 7th, and its vedha house is the 3rd from Aquarius, which is Aries. Whenever another planet moves through Aries during the Leo stays, the text treats the good result of the 7th as obstructed for that stretch. Faster planets pass through every sign within weeks or months, so vedha comes and goes inside a single Jupiter stay, while a slow planet such as Saturn can hold a vedha house for most of one; the gochar page on this site lists where every planet stands on the day you look.
Leo, Cancer and Virgo: the sign itself matters
The same chapter also weighs the sign Jupiter is passing through. Leo belongs to the Sun, which counts among Jupiter's natural friends, so the house readings stand as given for all three Leo stays. Cancer is Jupiter's sign of exaltation, and the text says a planet passing through its own or exaltation sign does not give the adverse results of an unfavourable house, while in a favourable house its good results come in full. That note applies to every Moon sign during the return to Cancer between January and June 2027.
Virgo is Mercury's sign, and in natural friendship Mercury is one of Jupiter's enemies. For a good planet in an enemy's sign the text says its power to do good is reduced, and that in an unfavourable house its results are harder. That note covers the Virgo interval from late November 2027 to the end of February 2028. The text also weakens a planet lost in the Sun's rays, which happens to Jupiter for some weeks around its yearly conjunction with the Sun. The text adds one more condition: Jupiter gives its effects while in the middle part of a sign, whereas the dates here mark sign changes only. Each row in the result shows which of the sign notes applies.
Guru Peyarchi, and why calendars differ
Every time on this page is worked out for the Lahiri ayanamsa, the default across this site, and stated in Indian Standard Time. Printed panchangs that use a slightly different ayanamsa or computing method can put the moment of entry an hour or so away; the date usually stays the same. Outside India a local clock can put a crossing on the previous date: the return to Cancer at 00:56 IST on 25 January 2027 is still 24 January from the Gulf westward, the re-entry of 26 June 2027 is 25 June across the Americas, and the first entry falls on 30 October in western North America.
Tamil almanacs observe the change as Guru Peyarchi, and some of them follow the older Vakya method, which can place it on a different day from the modern computation used here. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, roughly twenty-four degrees ahead of the sidereal one, so tropical Jupiter reaches Leo months before sidereal Jupiter does. Rahu and Ketu change signs during the same period, on 5 December 2026 by the mean node used here; calendars that follow the true node give 25 November.

Frequently asked questions
When does Jupiter enter Leo in 2026?
At 11:17 IST on Saturday 31 October 2026, by the Lahiri ayanamsa. It is the first of three entries into Leo in this passage: Jupiter backs into Cancer on 25 January 2027, enters Leo again on 26 June 2027, and returns once more on 28 February 2028 after a spell in Virgo.
How long will Jupiter stay in Leo?
From the first entry on 31 October 2026 to the final exit on 24 July 2028 is about twenty-one months, but Jupiter is in Leo for only about twelve and a half of them, in three stays: 31 October 2026 to 25 January 2027, 26 June to 26 November 2027, and 28 February to 24 July 2028.
For which Moon signs is Jupiter in Leo counted as good?
Phaladeepika lists the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th from the Moon as Jupiter's good houses. With Jupiter in Leo those are the Moon signs Cancer, Aries, Aquarius, Sagittarius and Libra. The text also asks that the matching vedha house be free of planets, and the birth chart and dasha are read alongside it.
Is Jupiter retrograde during this transit?
Yes, twice. It turns retrograde in Leo on 13 December 2026 and direct in Cancer on 13 April 2027, which is why it returns to Cancer for five months. Its next retrograde starts in Virgo on 12 January 2028 and ends in Leo on 14 May 2028.
What is Guru Peyarchi 2026?
Guru Peyarchi is the Tamil name for Jupiter's change of sign. In 2026 it is Jupiter's move from Kadagam (Cancer) into Simmam (Leo), which the modern Lahiri computation places at 11:17 IST on 31 October. Almanacs that follow the Vakya method can give a different date, so check the one your family uses.
Does this depend on my ascendant?
Not as the classical transit chapter frames it. Gochara results are counted from the Moon sign, so everyone with the same Moon sign has Jupiter in the same house and shares these dates. Jupiter's house counted from the ascendant is a separate reading, made from the full birth chart.
